Sales tax tracking for farmers market and craft fair vendors

Sorted by market, ready when the season ends.

Different markets can mean different tax rates, and reconstructing what you collected where is the worst part of tax season. TentTally applies the rate you set for each market on every sale and keeps the record for you.

How it works

  1. Set your default rate

One rate for wherever you usually sell, and choose whether your prices already include tax or tax is added on top.

  2. Give markets their own rate

A market in another town or county can have its own rate — or 0% where no tax applies — and you can override it for a single market day.

  3. Every sale locks in its rate

Each sale records the rate and tax mode in effect when you rang it up, so changing a rate later never rewrites past sales.

  4. Pull the report

The tax report totals the tax by market and rate for any date range — collected, or estimated if your prices include tax — and exports to CSV.

TentTally Tax Report: total revenue, estimated tax collected, items sold, and transactions across the season's market days, with a date range, market filter, and CSV download.

Built for how markets actually work

  • Rates are checked in order: that market day's own rate, then the market's rate, then your default.
  • 0% is a real rate, not a blank — a market where no tax applies stays at 0%.
  • Tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive pricing, switchable any time; the report flags any market whose sales mix the two.
  • Set aside a rained-out or test market day while you view a report.
  • Sales tax sits alongside your profit, best-seller, market summary, category, and payment-method reports.

What TentTally doesn't do

TentTally applies the rates you enter — it doesn't look up rates for you — and it records and reports the tax on your sales. It doesn't file returns or send payments to your state.

Sales tax rules vary by state and sometimes by market, and some states require a separate permit or registration for temporary events. Check with your state's revenue department or the market organizer. None of this is tax advice.

Questions

Does TentTally file or pay my sales tax?
No. It gives you an accurate record and report of the tax you collected, by market and rate, to use when you file — or to hand to your accountant as a CSV.
What if a market changes its tax rate mid-season?
Update the market's rate and every sale from then on uses the new one — unless that market day has its own rate, which still wins. Sales you've already recorded keep the rate they were rung up with.
